Nilagyan ko ng German kasi may US version which was directed by the same director of this movie, Michael Haneke. Naomi Watts was the poor female victim in the US version. Same plot, same feel, almost the same dialogues, except the thin psycho called the other "tubby" instead of "fatty".
The movie is anything but forgiving. What comes to mind is that American movie with Bacon and Theron, almost the same but different situations. And sad to say this movie isn't a fairy tale boo-boo.
It CAN be realistic, it depends. Who knows? With this crazy world we live in now. The movie is fast-paced in a slow tone which is also kind of its downfall. The schmaltz in this movie is quite bearable, in my honest opinion. Not so overthrown with drama that the pain the family felt is contagious you can almost.. just.. want to help.
It has its downs besides having to be so darn dragging in a few of its scenes. I don't know if it works for you but I get annoyed everytime the asshole leans and actually talks, or signals, to the camera and the viewers. Just.. I wanted to crumple his psychotic maniacal face!!
It depends upon the viewer how heavy one would feel but I felt hungry watching the movie. It's violent, it's disturbing, it's scary, it's believable.. but I know one thing that it is not, it's not worth watching the second time.
Overall: 3/5
